Job Openings: To Know and To Follow

Finding job opportunities is never easy. The job search process involves lots of time and a lot to keep track of. You may be interested in a company but can't seem to find out if they have job openings that may be right for you. Job boards are not the only place to search for available vacancies, as company websites and social media platforms are driving more new hires than any other sources these days. This article will explore ways to learn about new job opportunities and stay on top of the job search process.

Check Out the Company's Website

If you have a set of ideal companies in mind for which you would like to work, start by visiting their websites to see if they have advertised jobs. Many companies' websites have job alert systems that notify you when there are new job openings that match your interests. Once you sign up, the company will send you a list of available job openings via email so you can check for vacancies in your field without wasting time mining through every job search engine.

Use Social Media Channels

Social media platforms are one of the most efficient places to learn about new job opportunities. Many organizations post jobs on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. If you have specific companies in mind, you can follow them on social media to get notified of their openings.

Social media is also a great place to make connections with people that work at companies you have an interest in working at. You can reach out to a hiring manager, express interest in working for their company and ask about available positions. Making such professional connections is an important part of your job search, as when relevant opportunities become available, you may be the person they think to contact first.

"Research is the prelude to networking and directly reaching out to hiring managers. By canvassing the company websites, LinkedIn, and current articles written by key employees, you will determine the individuals to contact and the issues facing the organization. Connecting on social media and looking at your own network for referrals will allow you to network your way in to inquire about job opportunities."

Networking and Referrals

An online search will not help you tap into a hidden market. Employers might not post jobs online for a number of reasons - for instance, they might be trying to save money on advertising, or they would like to get candidates through employee referrals. The only way you can learn about such roles is if you find a way to connect with someone in the company. We recommend you make a list of all the people you know who might be connected to the company you want to apply with.

"Create relationships with employees of other firms. When we build relationships, we literally unlock the doors. Consider this, if someone sees you as a friend (or even a mutual friend), they will naturally be open to/excited about helping you get connected to new career opportunities. If you're a stranger inquiring about job opportunities, then you're just another stranger in their inbox."

Partner with a Recruitment Agency

You can increase the likelihood of finding a dream job with the support of a recruitment agency. Recruitment agencies help companies find qualified employees and act as a conduit between companies and employees. Agencies present you with open positions that you're suited for. Many of these positions can be exclusive or unavailable to the public.

Recruitment agencies will match you to the job, or if they don't have a job opening suitable for you, they will notify you when one is available. Agencies will not charge you any fees for applying with them. While recruitment agencies are here to help you, you are also helping them in their search for qualified candidates to present to their clients.
